The plan yesterday was to (finally) start reading Sherry Thomas's Delicious. I have been reading a great book by Steven Pinker called “The Language Instinct: How the Mind Creates Language ”. In his book The Language Instinct, he describes a language maven as a self-styled expert on the language. Lera Boroditsky: Lost In Translation, Wall Street Journal – July 23, 2010; Daniel Everett: Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes: Life and Language in the Amazonian Jungle; Michael Heppell – How To Be Brilliant; Steven Pinker – The Language Instinct. The only question is which came first: Were our brains customized for language or did language adapt to our brains? The '90s was the era of the language instinct. I've added Steven Pinker's The Language Instinct to my recommended readings. I highly recommend The Language Instinct to anyone who is interested in how our minds process language. It is not too hard to FURTHER READING. I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order! Taking a break from The Language Instinct and quickly re-reading Monstrous Regiment for something light. Stephen Pinker- The Language Instinct. The Language Instinct: The New Science of Language and Mind. On an organisational level, the language of an engineer is vastly different from that of a marketer, the growing brevity of emails remote from the formality of a business proposal. I adored Private Arrangements and made a point of getting Delicious at the at the RWA booksigning in San Francisco in July.
